The In-Car Radio Metadata Manifesto has been created to guide broadcasters in how they can best realise the opportunity to offer listeners a more visual and interactive experience in the connected car.
As in-car interfaces become increasingly voice-led, personalised and screen-limited, strong metadata is essential to ensure radio can still be found, recognised and selected - especially when listeners can only ask for what they can see or remember.
The Metadata Manifesto, published by Radio Ready for Connected Cars and launched this week at the World DAB Automotive Forum in Frankfurt, sets out why metadata matters, what broadcasters can do to enhance their in car services and how they should engage with critical stakeholders such as aggregators, like Radioplayer and platform providers, device and automotive manufacturers.
The Manifesto was edited by Christian Schalt of RTL, David O’Neill of ARD and Benjamin Poor of the EBU and drew upon the experience of multiple broadcasters across the world.
Welcoming publication of the manifesto Radio Ready co-founders Tobias Nielsen and Tomas Granryd said: “The Metadata Manifesto is an in-depth, expert, practical and accessible call to action for broadcasters to do all they can to make the visual experience of radio in the connected car consistent, coherent, useful to the listener and as beautiful as it can be. In essence it makes clear what broadcasters should do to maximise their in-car presence. Further, it looks to the future with advice on deep linking, agentic AI, LLMs and aggregation of content in personalised channels. We would like to thank the editors and contributors for their excellent work in this vital area”.
